State Tourney For the Grand Rapids Girls

The Rapids girls Basketball team had a very successful season and accomplished most of their goals this year. Congrats girls! Their state tourney game did not turnout in their favor and that shouldn't detract from the accoplishments of a growing year for all the girls. The loss was to the Totino Grace team that eventually won the AAA Championship. The play at the game was allowed to become physical which was to be expected but when physical becomes brutal the game of basketball looses some of the skill that I hope the teams possess. The girls regained their composure in the second half and made the game close considering the way Totino beat the rest of the teams in the tourney.

I believe the underclass players will commit themselves for the season next year and with the luck of the Irish on this St Pats day will return to the state tourney. With a year of seasoned experience behind them their goals will go beyond the first game and hopefully to the title game.

The important thing is that this experience of going to state is going to be a highlight of the year for the players, as well it should be. WTG girls everyone was proud of the way you represented yourselves and the school.

You have many highlights from this year...Cherish them,

Griffin all painted up for the big game. He traveled from California to watch the game but his energy level waned and he slept through most of the second half.

GRAND RAPIDS GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM IS HEADING TO STATE.....WTG GIRLS

The game with Hibbing for the state tourney berth was a close game in the first half, with the Thunderhawks pulling to a six point lead at the break. As has been the case in the last 6 or 8 games the girls came out on fire in the second half and pulled away for an easy win. I have to congradulate the girls on the improvement of their game and skills from the first game this year till now. This is truely a team in every sense of the word, they support each other and all have the same goal....WINNING! These girls are also great winners.

Best of luck down at state and have the time of your lives,

PS: A bigger trophy would be nice....HINT!
