Late Rainy River Fishing

Zach and I went to the Rainy River on Monday for some late season Walleye fishing, and despite the wind we manage to boat 85 eyes. We talked to many boats and the big fish were still hard to find. It seemed that 25" was about as large as was seen this year on the Rainy. The number of fish caught was always big but the size wasn't there. The water never got warm so maybe the big fish were still in the lake. I had a blast the 2 trips I made to the river and have to thank Zach for the invites....BTW....we usually have alot of fun in the boat.

Next is probably the opener in May. There will be 6 of us staying at the Little Winnie Resort for some wader fishing fun!!

I hope to have the pics on the blog shortly after the opener...TILL THEN,

Zach's hands were cold so he made me hold his fish for a picture. Sometimes you have to help out a friend in NEED!!

Zach took a great picture of this fat 25" fish I caught in the morning.

Z is holding a nice fish but notice the rollers behind the boat, we had whitecaps coming up the river today. It made for tough fishing at times.

Zach holds another nice fish, we struggled for awhile but when we found a sheltered stretch of river we caught alot fish vertical jigging until we drew a crowd. Then we were drifting into the other boats because of the wind. By this time we had 60+ fish boated so we didn't get too upset.

Believe it or not this 5" monster bit a 3" rainbow chub on a 1/4 ounce jig, he must have been hungry or very ambitious!!

Late in the day Zach hooked into this 25" eye.

Rainy River...A 100+ fish Day

Between snow storms I went fishing to Rainy River on Tuesday. Zach, Digger Guyer and I fished for 6+ hours and caught 107 fish on the river. For the most part it was a nice day but the starting temperature was probably only 28 degrees. At times when the wind didn't blow it felt like the upper 40's it was. We did not catch any real big fish but we did have a half dozen fish in the 20"+ range so it was a great day of fishing. Sounds like Z and I will try to make one more trip up there on Monday.

Till then,

This 24"+ fish was close to the big one of the day.

Zach holds up a nice 20"+ fish. We had times when we had triples and times when no one had a bite for an hour. That's fishing I guess.

I caught my share of fish, here's one of them.

Digger holds a fish for a pic....He had some really hot streaks where he would catch 4-8 fish in a row, he had this fire line on and would just pound his hook into the eyes head....WTG Digger!

This morning when I came home from work I waded through crotch deep snow to get into my door. I keep telling myself that Minnesota has alot to offer but last week I was golfing in shorts and enjoying it. I hope Tom, Richard and Donovon enjoy their golfing this weekend. It will take our courses 2-3 week to open!

This would stop all Cali traffic for a month but this is our street and everyone that goes to work will make it.....Enjoy you sun people.

This snow bank is 4' deep, I will not shovel it.....IT WILL MELT OR IT WILL BE THERE TILL AUGUST!!

California Golfing and Minnesota Shoveling When I get Home....SH*T

Well I finally have time to blog my California golf trip, sorry it took me so long but between work and shoveling snow its been tough. I hope you sun people don't fall off your chairs when you look at the pics. I'm not laughing but will apply another coat of BEN-GAY to my sore muscles. In the way of appreciation I had a great time golfing with D, Tom, and Richard I hope that when the retirement actually happens I will be able to come out and visit and golf with you guys. You've been great friend to Lyss and D....and of course ME!

Hope all goes well and I will probably see you this summer as I have volenteered to help My Cali Family move when the big day comes.

This Steelheader wishes you all well...Love you all,
