SO I LIED.....SHOOT ME!!

SO I lied, another day another fishing trip. I got a call from Tom at about 5:30 and said the fish were biting. I said where and when and I was off again to another lake, another set of fishermen and another night with the mosquitoes. Well the fish were there but the wind made it difficult to feel the bite, the most fish were caught directly under the boat vertical jigging. Pat brought his daughter Katie who enjoyed the fishing but was frantic at times with the swarms of flies and mosquitoes.

All in all it was a pleasant evening on the water, the temperatures were comfortable with the water cooling off the 90+ degrees we had in town. I took a few pictures, there needs to be a few fresh faces on the blog so enjoy. I can’t promise that the boat won’t find the water again today…two weeks off and nothing but time to fish and golf ( just a little ).

I guess I am one fortunate spouse, Jackie has never put her foot down. Over all the years I have never missed a trip or event that was important to me.

Thanks HON!!

Mickey's First trip of the Year

HO HUM…. Another day to fish, life can be so boring!! Just kidding, today I took Mickey fishing on Red lake. We met Zach and Reed up there and had a blast cranking for walleyes. As usual Mickey found a new best way to catch walleyes, last year it was crawler rigging after he caught his big fish. Now it may be crank baiting because he’s never caught so many walleyes in one day. Enough about Mickey’s foibles, the day was windy but fishable on the south shore. Mickey and I landed about 30-40 eyes on cranks, jigs and bobber fishing.

We also found some Hibb Tac rejects up there fishing, I could make some nasty comments but the pictures tell it all….HEHE…

All in all Red lake will make a fun day for anybody looking for walleye action and be creative, we had a blast crank baiting for the fish today and it made for a no brainer for Mickey. The fish hooked themselves, just hang onto your rod. I’m on vacation for 2 weeks now and am spending a week up on Winnie. I will have a lot of pics to post then. Don’t go into shock fishermen if you see no eye candy on the blog it will be coming when I return from my fishing overdose.

Enjoy the weather and at least one day of fishing,

FISHING IS MORE THAN A WORD IF YOU DO IT RIGHT!!

Coming off night shift during the second week of fishing season….what should I do….Paint…Clean my computer room….Wash the truck….NOT…I think I’ll go fishing. I started out fishing Winnie on Monday afternoon and it wasn’t the best bite but we caught more fish than the boats around us. I should also say that Zach bought a new boat which you will see it in the pics that follow. It’s an Alumacraft with a 50 HP Honda 4 stroke, great boat Z. While running around Winnie we also decided that Red Lake might be a good Tuesday trip so we slept in the fishhouse at Little Winnie resort Monday night with the help of Doug at the resort…..Thank-you very much Doug.

What needs to be said about walleye fishing on Red Lake….YOU better go this year and experience one of the best fishing days of your life. The fish are plentiful and hungry, enough said. You can catch till your arm gets tired and then you’ll catch more if you don’t get your line out of the water. It was truly one of my best fishing days ever and the company was great also….Thanks Z!!

People may criticize fishermen for traveling to Red Lake to bring home only 2 fish, but that’s not what it’s about. It’s about the numbers that you can catch. Take your kids, take your grandkids, and heaven forbid take your wife, anyone and everyone will have a great time catching Red Lake walleyes. Treat yourself and your loved ones and plan a trip to Red Lake for the great catch and release walleye fishery.

It’s been a long 2 days with little sleep so I guess it’s time rest for the next adventure,

When we went shallow and slow we started to pick up the Red Lake walleyes in big numbers, we caught more than 25 and probably less than 150. This is and must trip for any true fisherman, it's really crazy!!

Nice fish, the first of many after we figured out the pattern of the day.

This guide boat and the one in the next picture settled in on us shortly after we found where the walleyes were hiding.

When we got tired of trolling for the Red Lake walleyes we dropped anchor....yes I said Zach Dagel dropped anchor and I didn't stutter, he actually bought the biggest one I've ever seen for his new boat. He then proceeded to catch 7 or 8 walleyes with a jig, minnow and a bobber. The following pictures were all taken from the same spot we were anchored at. It actually got insane at the number of fish we caught.

Here little Drum Boy shows off his prize drum of the day, it had to go 5-6 pounds. Zach must have caught 10 or more drum...Dagel the Drummer Boy!! HEHE !!
